Ledizolv is a proven solution for removing lead paint and lead dust

Removing lead paint and lead dust from a home or other contaminated environment can be made easy with the proper methods and materials.
Ledizolv® is THE LEAD-SPECIFIC DETERGENT  scientifically formulated for use in the clean-up and control of lead dust hazards. It's a perfect solution for people living or working in lead paint poisoned environments; contractors working on renovation, maintenance, or abatement; and government and health agencies working to solve lead problems by removing lead paint and dust.

LSZ, Inc., devoted 2 ˝ years and substantial resources in the development of this product. The focus of our research and development was to invent a lead-specific cleaner that would achieve maximum lead dust removal, while at the same time having excellent functional, environmental and health safety characteristics.

The result of our R&D is Ledizolv® -- a lead-specific, phosphate-free, lead-dissolving detergent that helps prevent lead paint poisoning.

The lead-specific nature of Ledizolv® has been proven in thousands of clearance tests and extensive field studies. These tests have shown Ledizolv® to be a superior and more appropriate cleaner in removing lead paint and lead contaminated dust (LCD)  than tri-sodium-phosphate (TSP) and other phosphate-containing and/or multi-purpose cleaners.

Here are the details of a test study done with Ledizolv® cleaner:

The following are summaries of the four protocols tested in the Canadian Study Evaluation of the Clean-up of Lead Paint Dust in Houses.

Method 1
Floor swept then, Vacuumed with utility vacuum cleaner

Method 2
Floor vacuumed with household vacuum cleaner then, Mopped with "Mr. Clean" using a sponge mop in a single bucket

Method 3
Floor vacuumed with a utility vacuum cleaner then, Mopped with Ledizolv® (LSZ, Inc., New York) using a sponge mop in a single bucket

Method 4
Floor cleaned with a HEPA vac then, Mopped with TSP applying the TSP with a garden sprayer and the mop head wrung out in a separate bucket then, The floor rinsed with mop using water applied with garden sprayer and mop then, Again vacuum floor with HEPA vac

Conclusions

The following conclusions are made based on the data collected in this project.

"Cleaning of lead dust by either i) broom cleaning and a utility vacuum, or ii) household vacuum, followed by mopping with a household cleaner, will not meet either the current or proposed HUD clearance criteria." These two methods represent the cleaning procedures commonly available to householders.
"Cleaning of lead dust by either i) a utility vacuum followed by LEDIZOLV® and rinsing, or ii) HEPA vacuum cleaning, TSP cleaning, rinsing, and HEPA vacuuming, will likely reduce floor concentrations of lead levels to levels below both the current and proposed HUD clearance criteria."
NOTE: Using LEDIZOLV® ( method 3) achieved the same standard as method 4 in spite of the fact that:

Method 3 used a utility vac, method 4 used a HEPA vac
Method 3 vacuumed once, method 4 vacuumed twice
Method 3 contaminated detergent by wringing out mop in detergent, method 4 kept detergent uncontaminated by applying it with a garden sprayer.
Method 3 rinsed with one bucket, method 4 used garden sprayer to rinse

Unlike Ledizolv®, TSP can form an insoluble precipitate, lead phosphate, which according to the Merck Index 11th edition, "may reasonably be anticipated to be a carcinogen." Using TSP when removing lead paint and lead dust can also necessitate multiple, more thorough cleanings in order to achieve HUD clearance criteria. Additionally, because of environmental and worker safety concerns, virtually all states have restricted and/or banned the use of phosphate-containing cleaners.
