How Does Ledizolv® Work?

Lead-contaminated dusts are composed of lead oxides and other lead salts, such as lead sulfate and lead carbonate, which are poorly water soluble. Ledizolv® dissolves and removes these insoluble lead compounds from hard surfaces by acid solubilization, chelation, sequestration, de-flocculation, and suspension.

Acid solubilization involves acid attack on the lead compound to form a more water soluble ionic species.

Chelation and sequestration are reactions with the chelating and sequestering agents in Ledizolv® that form new more soluble or more readily removed compounds with either the lead compounds or the acid solubilized form of the lead compound.

De-flocculation is a physical mechanism involving breaking up lumps and nodules of insoluble compounds by interfering with electrostatic attractions and other binding forces in the lumps, thereby increasing the surface area available for other cleaning mechanisms to work on insoluble lead compounds.

Suspending is the physical action of dispersing solid particles in a liquid solution, which is achieved by overcoming electrostatic and other attractive forces between particulates such as the insoluble lead compounds and hard surfaces. Suspending is more effective on the small particulates resulting from the de-flocculating action of Ledizolv®.

By these interrelated synergistic mechanisms, Ledizolv,® is able to dissolve and remove even poorly water soluble lead compounds.

Why Is Ledizolv® Concentrated?

Ledizolv® - The Lead-Specific detergent is highly concentrated. One gallon is mixed with water to make 50 gallons of cleaning solution. Compare with other detergents which are sold for use "as is", undiluted right out of a 5 gallon pail.

Q: Why is Ledizolv® so concentrated?
A: To make it more economical and environmentally packaged for customers.

Economy

By making and selling a concentrated detergent, we save money for customers by lowering the costs of packaging, retailing, handling, storing and shipping.

It costs less to fill, handle and package 1 gallon of detergent than 50 gallons of detergent. By selling concentrated Ledizolv® detergent, we are conserving packaging materials, promoting recycling of cleaning buckets and minimizing energy consumption involved with manufacturing and handling.

Additionally, it costs less and takes up less space to store 1 gallon of detergent than 50 gallons of detergent. It costs much less to ship 1 gallon than 50 gallons. For instance, to ship a single case of 4 X 1 gallon containers of Ledizolv® from South Carolina to New York by UPS costs $10.37. To ship the equivalent amount of "use as is" detergent, 40 X 5 gallon containers, would cost more than $225.00 by truck, even with competitive freight discounts.

By selling a concentrate, we are not making the customer pay to ship and handle all the extra water.

Environment

It certainly takes less packaging material to contain and ship 1 gallon of detergent than 50 gallons. Even if a customer is recycling packing materials, and they hopefully are, it is still better to recycle a single gallon container rather than 10 X 5 gallon pails. If the customer is not recycling, the problem is even worse.

Buckets that are used to make up Ledizolv® cleaning solution will be re-used, instead of disposing single-use 5 gallon buckets. A single gallon container of Ledizolv® makes enough for 10 X 5 gallon containers of cleaner.

The energy or fuel used to fill and transport containers of Ledizolv® is certainly less for a single gallon of Ledizolv® than for 50 gallons of some other detergent.
